Newcastle United appear to have done enough to stay up in the Premier League this season after Eddie Howe’s side have gone on a big run in recent months, and have been one of the most in-form teams in all of Europe. Next summer, The Magpies would be expected to improve their squad even further though, as their next step has to be to challenge for an European spot.

Thus, do not be surprised to see Newcastle United pull off some big moves next summer. And one player who they have been linked with recently is Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

Oblak has been with Atletico Madrid since 2014 but his current deal with the club is expected to run out in the summer of 2023. Thus, it is very possible that the Spanish club could let the Slovenian goalkeeper leave in the summer.

And as reported by GOAL, a move to England would be welcomed by Oblak, although he would only want to join a club who he believes are potential title challengers.

Oblak was considered as arguably the best goalkeeper in the world not too long ago, but he has endured a difficult season this time around and has struggled to match his own high standards.

A change of scenery might be just what he needs right now. Still just 29 years of age, the Slovenian goalkeeper should have years of top level football left in the tank.

Thus, if Newcastle United were able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup on their part. Also, signing one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in the world would also be a statement of intent, as The Magpies look to establish themselves as one of the top clubs in England and eventually Europe.
