Trailing at the half yesterday, it looked like Newcastle United would remain within a Fulham win of dropping into the relegation zone. But, Allan Saint-Maximin came on to save the day for the Magpies.

The winger’s performance secured all three points for Newcastle at Turf Moor, but the implications run even deeper. The Toon Army will be happy to know the impact of yesterday’s win on their fight for Premier League safety.

As of yesterday after the matches were played, FiveThirtyEight.com has a new projection for the final Premier League table. According to the numbers, Newcastle United now only have a 14% probability of being relegated.

With Sheffield United and West Brom at 99% and higher to go down, Fulham are now projected to join them in the Championship with an 81% probability.

The latest projections show Newcastle United are longshots to be relegated after their win vs. Burnley.

After the loss to Newcastle, Burnley have a 6% probability to drop and Brighton and Hove Albion saw their likelihood reduced to less than 1%.

Each week, the tide tends to shift between Newcastle and Fulham on who will finish in 18th place. But, this latest projection is a great sign for survival for the Magpies. They are projected to finish with 38 points while Scott Parker’s side is destined for 33, according to FiveThirtyEight. Funny enough, Fulham would have a better goal differential by five if things go as expected.

Both clubs face tough matchups this week as Newcastle will take on a top-four West Ham side and Fulham will try to upset Arsenal. NUFC still have a game in hand on their relegation rivals.
