Following their embarrassing defeat vs. Brighton and the news that Mike Ashley isn’t planning to sack Steve Bruce, Newcastle United seem to be trending towards relegation. Obviously, dropping down to the Championship would be a massive blow to the club, but could it also open the door to a dream opportunity for a young player?

Freddie Woodman is out on loan with Swansea City for the second straight season and is playing well in the Championship. He’s started 36 of 37 league matches for the Swans this season and has registered 18 clean sheets. They currently sit third on the EFL table.

The young goalkeeper still has aspirations of becoming the number one in goal for Newcastle United. If the club gets relegated, that dream could become a reality.

Newcastle United dropping down to the second division could completely alter their goalkeeping group. Martin Dubravka could look to make a move elsewhere rather than play in the Championship. He’s been the target of some top clubs when he was at his best for the Magpies and could bring a nice profit if he’s sold.

Newcastle United being relegated could open the door for this player’s dream opportunity.

Karl Darlow was the starter for a portion of the season the last time Newcastle were in the Championship. He could remain with the club after signing a new deal recently, but he’s also rumored to be unhappy about his demotion and likely to seek greener pastures this summer.

If both players leave, Woodman could get his chance to become the first-choice option between the sticks. He is experienced at that level and instead of helping Swansea City, he could lead the Magpies back into the Premier League.
