Newcastle United, playing in their biggest match of the season, were embarrassed yesterday in a 3-0 blowout against Brighton. Justifiably, this made the shouts for Steve Bruce to be sacked even louder.

But, according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Mike Ashley’s stance has not changed and he will stick with the highly-criticized manager. With the club in a tailspin, Bruce could finally win over some fans by doing the right thing at this moment: stepping down.

Bruce’s message has always been consistent that he won’t quit or run away from the challenge. He usually mentions how much he loves and respects the club, too. However, those two sentiments contradict each other.

If he truly loved the club and wanted what’s best for it, he would realize that stepping down is exactly what Newcastle United need right now. There aren’t many, if any, Newcastle supporters that are impressed by his “loyalty” or bravery” to stick around and go down with the ship.

Steve Bruce could finally win over Newcastle fans if he decides to resign.

At this point, it’s a selfish decision not to resign. Bruce is clearly not the manager for this club to succeed, the results have been abysmal, and he appears to have lost the dressing room. Everyone in the world seems to know that he needs to leave other than Ashley and Bruce.

Bruce was always going to be in a tough spot with the fans after replacing the beloved Rafa Benitez. But, with Ashley inexplicably refusing to sack him, he could become somewhat of a hero if he resigns and allows the club to hire a new manager and survive in the top flight.
