After their dramatic 1-1 draw vs. Aston Villa, Newcastle United are starring down a pivotal matchup this weekend against relegation rival Brighton and Hove Albion. With a lot riding on this fixture, one of the key performers from the Villa draw has earned the right to start vs. the Seagulls.

Jacob Murphy was the first substitute to appear for Newcastle last week as he replaced Ryan Fraser. The winger immediately provided a spark for Steve Bruce’s side.

A few minutes after coming on, Murphy dribbled his way into the box and smashed a shot off the crossbar. He was aggressive and assertive with pushing the ball forward, including after Villa went up on the Ciaran Clark own goal.

In the final moments of the match, he was able to chase down a loose ball and send in the perfect cross that Jamaal Lascelles headed home for the equalizer.

An impact substitute recently, this Newcastle United winger deserves a start vs. Brighton.

With the key attacking trio out, Murphy looks like he can be the player to bring the action for Newcastle United. Against Wolves, he skillfully got into the area before setting up Joelinton for his frustrating miss in that close match.

Bruce should start Murphy on the right wing and either drop Joelinton or move the Brazilian elsewhere in the attack. Or, if Javier Manquillo isn’t fit enough to start yet, Murphy could get the nod as a right-back.
