Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion both needed three points to feel better about their chances of Premier League survival. But instead, the two clubs in the relegation battle played to a scoreless draw.

With the draw, Newcastle United move ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion into 16th place. The Magpies carry a four-point lead over 18th-place Fulham, who are about to kick-off at Anfield vs. Liverpool.

Both clubs had their moments to dictate the action,  but neither side completely dominated or played the other off the pitch. West Brom held the edge in possession and shots while NUFC had more efforts on target.

While they weren’t able to come up with a quality end product, Joelinton and Joe Willock were the most consistent action players for Newcastle. Willock, the Arsenal loanee, was arguably Newcastle’s best player overall with his aggressiveness getting forward and defensive work rate.

Newcastle United pick up a crucial point on the road in a 0-0 draw vs. West Brom.

Ryan Fraser also had some positive moments on the counter-attack, but those were primarily in the first half as he was less impactful in the second half. Andy Carroll replaced him in the waning moments of stoppage time with the match ending before he could even touch the ball. Matt Ritchie was an unused substitute after a dust-up with Steve Bruce earlier this week.

There were chances, especially on the break, that should have been handled better for Newcastle. But, It wasn’t a poor performance for Bruce’s side and Martin Dubravka comes away with his first clean sheet in the Premier League this season.
