With Fulham right on their heels, Newcastle United quite literally need to play with amnesia and give it their all against Wolverhampton. The Magpies displayed a true fighting spirit in their victories over Everton and Southampton, but experienced a tale of two halves against both Chelsea and Manchester United.

The next two games will be critical for Newcastle United to stay ahead of Fulham and start climbing the table. Wolverhampton are an unpredictable opponent, but they are enjoying a good run of form at the moment. Having won three of their last four games, Wolves will have momentum on their side when they travel to St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United’s star on the wing, Allan Saint-Maximin, spoke to NUFC TV about the pressure the Magpies face over the next few weeks. The dynamic Frenchman said that he and his teammates are aware of the threat from 18th-placed Fulham, who seem to be a team on the rise, but he also had a clear message for the team.

As quoted by the Chronicle, Saint-Maximin delivered a ten-word message that was the very definition of straightforward: “we have to do everything to win the next game.”

Anything less than six points vs. Wolves and West Brom spells trouble for Newcastle United.

Uh, yeah, that is 100% true, and the game on the following weekend against West Brom needs to be a convincing victory for the sake of improving the current goal differential.

With the quality in this Newcastle United squad it is difficult to accept the current state of the club, but the next two weeks will be the most important of the season.

Safety will not be guaranteed with back-to-back victories, but six points would shove this team in the right direction and provide some breathing room.

With Fulham’s schedule set to become one of the most difficult in the Premier League, Saint-Maximin’s general analysis is spot on: the Magpies need to win.

Newcastle United have not claimed three points against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men since they earned promotion in 2017, but Saturday is the ideal time to reverse that negative trend.

According to individual game prediction models from FiveThirtyEight, Newcastle United are being tapped as slight favorites to get the job done over Wolverhampton, and the Toon enjoy the same prediction status for their battle with West Brom. Let’s hope those predictions are on the money.
