Newcastle United are floundering in 17th with their Premier League safety cushion down to just three points. While the addition of Joe Willock on loan from Arsenal has been solid thus far, there is another player that was linked to the club that they will regret missing on as they search for scoring and success.

Jesse Lingard was expected to make a move from Manchester United in January as he’s struggled mightily for match time. Newcastle United were linked with the out-of-favor midfielder as well as a few other clubs in the Premier League.

When it came time to make his decision, Lingard reportedly preferred a switch to West Ham United under David Moyes to a move to St. James’ Park. At the time, it didn’t seem to be an issue as Lingard’s weekly wages and lack of production were red flags.

But, the 28-year-old is excelling after his loan swap to the Hammers. In four matches, Lingard has three goals and one assist. He seems rejuvenated by his new surroundings and is proving to be a crucial piece in West Ham’s success.

Jesse Lingard is thriving after choosing West Ham over Newcastle United.

With Lingard’s positive performances, West Ham have made a surprise move into the top four on the Premier League table. The Hammers have won three of the four matches that he’s appeared in with the lone draw coming in the match that he didn’t score or assist.

Today, he scored what would wind up as the match-winner in a home victory over Spurs. As Newcastle search for offense and a string of positive results, fans will be frustrated to see a target from last month helping to carry a different Premier League side to success.
