In less than an hour, Newcastle United will kick off against Chelsea. This will be the first full match without Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schar, and Callum Wilson due to their long-term injuries. Minus those three first-choice options, we now have the lineup Steve Bruce has selected.

In the biggest decision of the day, Bruce has elected for Dwight Gayle to take the reins up top. This will be his first start of the season.

Allan Saint-Maximin gets another start as he works his way back into full fitness and Miguel Almiron completes the attacking group. It will be interesting to see if either player is playing primarily next to Gayle or if both will slot in behind in on the wings.

The midfield will include Jonjo Shelvey and Arsenal loanee Joe Willock. Isaac Hayden is also in the starting lineup and could slot into the midfield or as an additional central defender.

On the backline, captain Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark both return to action. Clark missed the win over Southampton due to his partner having their baby. Jamal Lewis sticks around at left-back and Emil Krafth steps in for Javier Manquillo on the right flank.

Paul Dummett is available on the bench as a defensive replacement. Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy could help if an attacking boost is needed at outside-back. Ryan Fraser is in the squad as an option on the wing. He’s excelled off the bench this season.

The Longstaff Bros. provide depth in the midfield and both Andy Carroll and Joelinton are available to replace Gayle or add to the attack. Martin Dubravka remains the backup goalkeeper.

For Chelsea, the starters are: Kepa, Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Joginho, Kovacic, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, Mount, and Werner.
