Newcastle United are looking to strengthen their squad on the final day of the transfer window. But, a move away from the club is much closer than any arrival. After some frustration regarding his future as a Magpie, DeAndre Yedlin appears ready to leave Newcastle and join Galatasaray in Turkey.

According to ESPN, terms are reportedly ironed out already and a medical is all that remains to solidify the deal. It seems his work permit issues have also been resolved.

While the club doesn’t have much room to lose talented, experienced players, the departure of Yedlin actually may not be a big blow to the club. He’s been a solid player for the club for a handful of seasons, but this year has not been his best showing in the black and white.

For a large chunk of the season, the American speedster wasn’t even making the matchday squad. His pace is unmatched on the backline, but his abilities in the attack have never been consistent and he’s not purely a lockdown defender at the opposite end.

Unlike the thin group at left-back, Steve Bruce will still be able to choose from Javier Manquillo, Emil Krafth, or even Jacob Murphy. Manquillo is the best player there, including Yedlin, when healthy and he should be comfortably established as the starter. Krafth has been inconsistent but not overwhelmed this season and Murphy is a converted winger that’s been gaining valuable experience there.

Yedlin’s tenure with Newcastle began in 2016 and he’s been the starter at right-back for much of his time on Tyneside. Now, five years later, it seems the USMNT veteran has played his final match for the club.
