With the Bruce Out pressure mounting, the decision for Steve Bruce to leave Newcastle United shouldn’t be up to him.
Yesterday’s loss to Sheffield United was a low point for Newcastle United this season and honestly, one of the lowest points over the last few years. After the embarrassing performance by his club, Steve Bruce indicated that he won’t walk away from a challenge as supporters continue to amplify the shouts of “Bruce Out”.
The funny part about that remark is that the choice is potentially Bruce’s to make. In fairness, he should’ve been sacked before. But, his time is certainly limited now at Newcastle United, and the reason for that is his poor performance at his job.
He’s showcased a lack of adaptability and ambition since taking over the club after Rafa Benitez departed. Whether you think Rafa’s tenure was perfect or not, it was certainly better than the Bruce Era on Tyneside.
The fact that Bruce could decide his own fate is laughable. Bruce resigning from Newcastle United would be essentially pulling a George Constanza from Seinfeld and preemptively breaking up with someone that is planning to break up with you. Mike Ashley needs to step up to the plate and give the manager his walking papers ASAP.
Honestly, Bruce would win some fans over in the Toon Army if he did decide to walk away from the job if Ashley won’t pull the trigger on sacking him. It would be doing the right thing, but it shouldn’t be his choice at all.
