With his time at Arsenal reportedly coming to an end, this attacking midfielder could fit well at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have struggled to find consistent playmaking this season. Callum Wilson, the club’s star striker, leads the club in assists and he should be primarily on the receiving end of quality passes from his teammates in the final third. What if the Magpies could sign a player, for a bargain, with nearly 60 career assists in the Premier League?

According to Chris Wheatley, Mesut Ozil is reportedly in negotiations to join D.C. United of Major League Soccer. But, Newcastle should continue trying to acquire the midfielder before he makes the move to the United States. He tallied 29 assists across the 2015/16 and 2016/17 EPL seasons. In just 18 Premier League appearances last season, Ozil picked up two assists.

The German World Cup winner was left off the Premier League squad for Arsenal this season. His contract with the Gunners expires in the summer, meaning he could sign now for a club and join them when his deal is up. But, Arsenal seem to want to move Ozil now.

For Newcastle United, he fits the role they’ve been missing. He can play as an attacking midfielder and provide service to Callum Wilson and the other strikers.

If D.C. United, a massively smaller club than NUFC, can afford Ozil, that indicates his wages may not overwhelm Newcastle. Steve Bruce should make an honest effort to sign the 32-year-old playmaker to help transform his club with a proven Premier League player.
