Newcastle United have dominated the recent history against Leeds United.
After picking up a win over West Brom over the weekend, Newcastle United will return to action midweek when they face Leeds United. The darling promoted side and manager Marcelo Bielsa, a finalist for FIFA Best Men’s Coach, have stumbled a bit lately, with only one win in their last six matches.
They will look to get back on track when they face the Magpies on Wednesday, hoping to end the club’s recent struggles against NUFC.
Since April 2000, Leeds have only defeated Newcastle one time. That loss came in the Premier League back in 2002. After Leeds were relegated following the 2003-2004 campaign, the clubs didn’t play again until a league cup match in 2013.
That match was a 2-0 third round victory for Newcastle with goals from Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran. Newcastle were bounced in the next round by Manchester City.
The two most recent matches between the clubs came during the 2016-17 season when both were in the second division. Newcastle won the first match in the Championship with Dwight Gayle scoring a brace in the 2-0 result.
In the latest match between the sides, a Jamaal Lascelles’ goal was canceled out by a Chris Wood 90th-minute equalizer.
The all-time series between the two clubs began in 1924 with Newcastle only losing one of the first eight meetings. The Magpies actually had the toughest run in the history of the series. Between April 1962 and August 1969, Newcastle only won one of 15 matches. That poor run included just three draws. Currently, Newcastle have 39 wins, 37 losses, and 18 draws vs. Leeds United in all competitions.
