Championship striker available for £10m more than Newcastle’s Almiron

Newcastle United have set their asking price for star player Miguel Almiron.
Newcastle United will take on Chelsea at St. James’ Park in a few hours, but the media’s primary attention is centered on transfer rumors. The latest rumors involve Miguel Almiron.
The Paraguayan’s agent, Daniel Campos, claims his client is ready to part ways with Newcastle United. This news has fans split as some say they do not blame Almiron for wanting to leave, while others argue he was not cut out for the Premier League.
One player who will be smiling at these rumors is Peruvian midfielder Rodrigo Vilca. The 21-year-old joined Newcastle United in October and is currently playing with the youth team, but he will be looking to take Almiron’s place when the time comes.
According to Campos, Atletico Madrid expressed interest in Almiron a few months ago, and now Italian giants Inter Milan have thrown their hat in the mix for the Paraguayan. It remains to be seen if these bold statements are true, or if they are being made up to incite a new contract on Tyneside.
The news has also reached Steve Bruce as he was quick to slam the public behavior of Almiron’s agent. It seems as though the front office at St. James’ Park have also heard enough and are also willing to sell a player who still holds the honor of being the club’s second-most expensive player.
The Toon purchased Almiron for £21m from Atlanta United in January, 2019, and a new report from 90min claims that Newcastle United are willing to miss out on a profit as they are only seeking £20m for his sale.
Almiron was expected to live up to his reputation as being a dynamic playmaker in the final third, but the disparity between MLS and the Premier League has proven to be too much for him to handle.
Throw in the defensive tactics of both Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce, and the task to regularly score goals and provide assists becomes even more challenging.
Almiron has only scored nine goals for the Magpies across all competitions, with half of those goals being against League One clubs in the FA Cup, so it is no surprise that his price tag is only £20m.
Former Magpie Adam Armstrong, who currently plays for Blackburn Rovers, is lighting up the Championship for the second-consecutive season. The striker already has 11 goals to his name this season, and that is why Blackburn have set a price of £30m for his services.
It is unfortunate to see things play out this way with Almiron, but Newcastle United need a player who can do more than just provide a top work rate. The Magpies need more goal-hungry players in order to elevate their status in the top flight.
