Steve Bruce made some major changes in the Newcastle United lineup ahead of today’s match vs. Wolves.

Coming off a 4-1 home defeat vs. Manchester United last weekend, Newcastle United are back in action today vs. Wolves at Molineux Stadium. With kickoff set for less than an hour from now, we take a look at the squad and starting lineup that Steve Bruce selected for the fixture.

Karl Darlow is fit enough to start in goal after his knock vs. Man Utd. In front of him, Federico Fernandez and Jamaal Lascelles remain in central defense with Jamal Lewis at left-back. Opposite Lewis, it appears Ryan Fraser will start at right-back, according to the Premier League website’s graphic.

The winger will definitely add some attacking punch from that position, but it will be something to watch when he’s called upon defensively.

Jeff Hendrick slides in from his wing position to his natural area in central midfield. With Jonjo Shelvey out with a groin injury and Isaac Hayden on the bench not fully fit, Fabian Schar looks to slot in next to Hendrick.

Finally, we see Miguel Almiron in the starting XI at the number ten. Allan Saint-Maximin will be wide to the left and Jacob Murphy will be the right winger. Callum WIlson gets the start as the lone striker.

Reaction

It’s great that Miggy and Fraser are in the starting lineup, but it’s odd that Fraser may be a defender today. It may not be shocking to see he and Murphy interchanging a bit on that right flank.

If Fraser/Murphy can’t hold up back there, Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo are available on the bench. That also goes for Schar in central midfield because Hayden and Sean Longstaff can be ready if called upon.

This lineup is an unusual one, but it does provide some exciting pace and should allow the Magpies to push the tempo vs. Wolves.
