Just like October 2018, Newcastle United find themselves in a similar situation vs. Manchester United with the opposing manager on the hot seat.

Almost two years ago exactly, Newcastle United were preparing to face Manchester United in an important October matchup with the Red Devils seemingly on the cusp of firing their manager. Fast forward to the present time and the situation is almost identical for the Magpies.

Back in 2018, Jose Mourinho had Manchester United in 10th position heading into a 10/6 matchup vs. Newcastle. The Special One was planted firmly on the hot seat and there were reports that he would be sacked, no matter the result vs. NUFC, by Man Utd.

Goals from Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto within the first ten minutes at Old Trafford seemed to perfectly encapsulate the final chapter of Mourinho with Man Utd. But, three goals late in the second half saw Man U. come from behind and score a 3-2 victory.

Despite reports and mentions of it on the commentary, Mourinho was not sacked immediately after the match and instead stayed at the helm there until mid-December.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finds himself in a similar position as Mourinho was, especially following a massive 6-1 defeat to Mourinho’s Spurs side before the international break. Manchester United currently reside 16th on the table after four matches. Recently, Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with becoming Ole’s replacement for United.

Will former MUFC captain Steve Bruce and his Magpies score a win vs. Man Utd and seal Ole’s fate? Or, will Newcastle come up short again and potentially extend his stay?
