Newcastle get a big boost as this star won’t face them for Man Utd
When Newcastle United return to Premier League play, they will dodge one of Manchester United’s big signings.
The transfer window has come and gone and clubs around the Premier League announced big signings. Manchester United were active and added some important reinforcements. But, one of their key signings will not be making his debut against Newcastle United.
According to NBC Sports and other outlets, New Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani will be required to quarantine in Manchester following his arrival on a free transfer. That quarantine will need to be the full 14 days required when entering England from France.
With Man Utd’s next match coming against Newcastle United on 10/17, he won’t be cleared to be back in training or appear in the match. He won’t be permitted to travel with the club to St. James’ Park either.
For Newcastle United, that’s a major boost. Cavani is a proven goalscorer and will definitely be looking to start off his Premier League tenure on the right note. Instead, he will likely make his debut for the Red Devils against Paris Saint Germain, Cavani’s former club, in the Champions League.
The Uruguayan striker was one of the players linked with Newcastle United during the takeover saga earlier this year. Along with Alex Telles, Cavani will look to get Manchester United back on track following their 6-1 thrashing vs. Jose Mourinho’s Spurs.
Cavani scored 200 goals during his time with PSG and over 100 for Napoli before that. He also has 50 goals for Uruguay. Newcastle United will be lucky to avoid that productive of a striker, no matter how rusty he may have been.
