Newcastle United are taking a big risk with their decision to conclude transfer business early.

All eyes are on the major sports media outlets and their social media accounts to track all of the transfer business across England. One set of fans that will not be glued to their televisions are those of Newcastle United.

Steve Bruce made it clear that Newcastle United would only make last-minute loan signings if a “mouth-watering” deal popped up. The Magpies conducted some of the best transfer business in the Premier League this summer, but at least two more signings were needed before the deadline.

Newcastle United would be wise to bring in a central defender and another striker. What happens if Federico Fernandez or Jamaal Lascelles pick up knocks, and Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett, who are injury prone, are unavailable to take their places?

The Magpies finally have a proven, lethal finisher leading the front line in Callum Wilson, but what happens if he goes down with an injury? Dwight Gayle is still out, and Andy Carroll’s inability to score goals would place a ceiling on the club’s success. Let’s not even get started with Joelinton’s record up top as a striker.

The Toon do not need to pursue any big names to serve as cover, but they should have completed some business to add more depth in these key areas.

That being said, fans will be hoping their defenders and Callum Wilson stay fit, especially when the games start coming thick and fast over the holiday season.
