Newcastle United are looking for its first Premier League win since opening weekend.

It took a late equalizer and sudden-death penalty kicks for Newcastle United to get past League Two’s Newport County in the Carabao Cup midweek. Tomorrow, they return home and to Premier League play when they host Burnley.

Newcastle Players to Watch

Allan Saint-Maximin: The star newcomer last season, Saint-Maximin wasn’t overly impressive so far this season before an ankle injury kept him out of action the past two matches. If he can go, the expectation will be for him to open the game up with his pace and dribbling and start to produce consistently.

Callum Wilson: Yes, he has two goals thus far for Newcastle United. But, he also has some big misses this season, which he has admitted. The star striker should bag at least one goal vs. Burnley this weekend and needs to insert himself into the action.

Karl Darlow: While he may not be Martin Dubravka, Darlow had some massive saves to keep Newcastle United close vs. Spurs last weekend. Burnley doesn’t have the attacking prowess of Tottenham, but Darlow will need to be switched on for the entire 90 minutes to avoid conceding a soft goal.

Things to Know

Two goals scored for Burnley.

Burnley has only outscored Sheffield United this season and that’s largely due to the Blades having zero goals.

Each club has 43 wins in the all-time series.

Newcastle United and Burnley have a tightly competitive series with 43 wins apiece and 21 draws. Before the Magpies won both matches during the 2018-19 season, they had only one victory in nine tries. That win came back in 1982.

Jeff Hendrick played over 135 matches for Burnley.

The midfielder was a Burnley man from 2016 until signing with the Magpies on a free move this summer. He scored ten goals and seven assists for the club.

Key for a Newcastle Win: Less negative tactics from Steve Bruce

After the embarrassing tactics a week ago against Jose Mourinho’s side, the Newcastle manager should open things up against a lesser opponent. The Magpies have talent in the attack and reliable defenders on the backline. There’s no reason to bunker down at home vs. Burnley.
