Newcastle United begin the new season with three points against West Ham.

Newcastle United secured all three points in London as they fired two goals past West Ham while keeping their own goal safe. The Magpies’ goals came from newcomers Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.

West Ham had their moments in the first half, but Newcastle United enjoyed a strong collective performance, especially in the second half when it mattered most. The following players stood out the most and made the difference for Steve Bruce’s side.

Callum Wilson

Newcastle United have been screaming for a proper number nine and they got that in Wilson. The former Bournemouth man settled into the game quickly, showed great composure on the ball, took multiple shots inside the box, and he got the goal to give the Magpies the lead.

Jamal Lewis

Another newcomer that impressed was Jamal Lewis. The left-back put in a great shift on both ends of the pitch. Defensively, he showed great awareness, intercepted passes, and blocked a few crosses. Offensively, he timed his overlapping runs well, and showcased his good vision.

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll was full of energy for Newcastle United as he won every duel in the air, rarely made a mistake with his passes in the final third, and applied constant pressure to force errors among the opposition. His aggression and hustle were crucial today.

Javier Manquillo

The Spaniard was not perfect for 90 minutes, but he was great when Newcastle United pressed forward. Manquillo was comfortable on the ball, showed confidence in one-on-one situations, and did well to set up the goal for Wilson.

Miguel Almiron

The Paraguayan star came on late in the game, but he had an immediate impact. Almiron provided Newcastle United with instant offense right when their energy was beginning to fade. He provided an assist for Hendrick and nearly scored himself.

Next. Plenty of pressure on Bruce this season. dark
