This striker would change the game for Newcastle United
Newcastle United are still in the market for a new striker and this player would be an excellent addition.
Right now, the options at striker for Newcastle United are limited. Very limited. Dwight Gayle is out for months. Yoshinori Muto has a foot out the door. Joelinton hasn’t been spotted yet this preseason. And, Andy Carroll, who has scored twice already, is an injury-prone 31-year-old. With the Premier League opener coming up on 9/12 vs. West Ham United, Newcastle should battle with the Hammers for this game-changing striker.
West Ham and Newcastle have been linked with FC Porto striker Moussa Marega. The 29-year-old forward is entering the final year of his deal at Porto and has not shown a desire to sign a contract extension. But, there seems to be the thought that he wants to try his hand in the Premier League.
He has scored double-digit league goals in four straight seasons, including a 22-goal, five-assist season back in 2017/18. Last year, he tallied 12 goals and seven assists with the league, plus one goal and two assists in the Europa League. Marega also has three goals for the Mali national team.
Rather than lose him on a free move next summer, Porto will definitely be open to moving him this summer. While he has a reported release clause of 40 million, the Magpies should be able to score him for comfortably less than that.
Steve Bruce doesn’t have a large budget in this transfer window, but it would be a wise investment for the club to spend a large chunk of those funds on Marega. He would be a shoo-in to score at least double-digit goals this season and could be the missing piece for Newcastle going forward. He brings everything to the table that you’d look for in a striker with the ability to poach goals with his movement in the box, run at defenders or get in behind the backline, and win the ball in the air and score headers.
