Newcastle United were hoping to sign Callum Wilson this summer, but now that deal looks unlikely.
The news surrounding Newcastle United is going from bad to worse. Firstly, the club was rocked with an injury to their most in-form striker Dwight Gayle against Crewe Alexandra.
Then Martin Dubravka, also known as the Magpies’ savior between the sticks, could be out for up to eight weeks with a heel injury. The injury occurred in training this week.
On top of that, Newcastle United are in dire need of a quality striker who has a proven track record in the Premier League. Head coach Steve Bruce has his sights set on Bournemouth and England striker Callum Wilson.
With 20 goals to his name over the last two seasons, Newcastle United’s interest in the striker comes as no surprise, but a deal for Wilson’s services is now unlikely.
It was initially assumed that Bournemouth might make him available at a lower price due to being relegated, but a new report from the Chronicle claims that the Cherries want £30m for his signature.
Seeing that Mike Ashley only allocated a budget of £35m for the club this summer, that deal will not happen. On top of that, the report goes on to say that the striker wants a higher weekly wage than what he earns on the south coast.
Wilson is currently on £75,000 per week, so even if a transfer fee would have been agreed, his weekly wage request could have been a stumbling block for the Toon.
There is no good news for Newcastle United today, but hopefully this injury crisis encourages the club to act quicker and bring in a striker who can effectively lead the front line.
