Newcastle United need a new face to lead the front-line next season, but Liverpool’s youngster is not that striker.
The search for a new striker continues at Newcastle United. Upon the conclusion of the 2019-20 Premier League campaign, Steve Bruce hinted that a few deals were close, but so far the only player to walk through the doors of St. James’ Park is goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.
Former Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick reportedly had a medical scheduled earlier this week, but the club is yet to announce his signing. In addition, fans will be hoping to see the club bring in one more left-back, winger, and a striker before September 12th.
In regard to the striker position, which is an area that needs the most upgrading, Steve Bruce made his transfer preference clear the other day.
Bruce has not been shy in stating that Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson is his top transfer target this summer. It remains to be seen how things will play out in that race, however, the Magpies are not placing all of their eggs in one basket.
According to a new report out of Liverpool, Newcastle United are one of six teams that have inquired about the availability of Rhian Brewster as a loanee.
Brewster, 20, is one of Liverpool’s rising stars, and enjoyed success in a loan spell with Swansea City last season, in which he scored 11 goals in 22 appearances.
While there is no doubt that Brewster is a talented player with loads of potential to become a great striker in England, he is not the right fit for Newcastle United at this time.
The Magpies need a striker with a proven record in the Premier League in order to break into the top half of the table next season.
This is not the time for Newcastle United to take a chance on a youngster who is surrounded by hype because of his potential, but has no Premier League appearances under his belt.
The only realistic option from Liverpool that Newcastle United should be considering is a move for versatile attacking player Harry Wilson.
