Steve Bruce is ready to show this Newcastle flop the door
Following another stint on loan, it appears that Jacob Murphy’s time at Newcastle United is coming to an end.
In July 2017, Newcastle United were looking for some firepower on the wing. Rafa Benitez turned to a boyhood fan of the Magpies that was starring for Norwich City at the time. Unfortunately, the fairy tale story did not come to fruition for Jacob Murphy and his time with the club looks to be heading towards the end.
According to The Northern Echo, Steve Bruce does not consider Jacob Murphy an option for the first team this season and is ready to move him away from the club. In more than 40 matches for Newcastle United, Murphy has only contributed one goal and three assists. His final appearance for the club came on January 26, 2018 in an FA Cup loss to Watford.
He did well on loan this year in the second division with Sheffield Wednesday, which followed a successful half-season run with West Bromwich Albion in 2018/19. Often looking overmatched vs. Premier League opposition with Newcastle, the Championship seems like the right league for the 25-year-old.
With only one year left on his deal, Newcastle’s best option would be to sell him now while there is still some value. But, in all likelihood, he will probably go out on loan again with a club like Derby County or Middlesbrough and then leave the club on a free move next summer.
He wasn’t expected to save the club by any means, but there was some excitement when Murphy arrived and his time with the Magpies was an absolute disappointment. Rafa was desperate for an attacking threat and he definitely missed on Murphy, who now appears ready to leave the club for the final time.
