With a limited budget after the takeover fell through, Newcastle United won’t have the money to secure one of their transfer targets.

When there was still a possibility that Newcastle United would have new ownership this summer, there didn’t seem to be any players that the club couldn’t afford. Obviously, with that takeover falling through, there are a lot of players that the Magpies had to cross of their wish list. One of those players was a rumored target at right-back.

Barcelona has reportedly set the price tag at £27 million for 21-year-old right-back Emerson. With Newcastle United’s budget for the summer rumored to be around £35 million by Mike Ashley, it’s highly unlikely that they will spent a vast majority of it on a position that’s not too high on the need this after the 2019/20 season.

If the funds were there, Emerson would be an excellent addition to the right flank for Newcastle United. He played in 33 La Liga matches this season on loan with Real Betis and assisted on six goals and scored three himself. He can defend and get forward to add to the attack, which is something that Newcastle United has needed for years.

Unfortunately, with their current financial situation, the likelihood is that Emerson will join Spurs or Paris Saint Germain or one of the other clubs that is rumored to be interested instead of the Magpies. For Newcastle United, Javier Manquillo should enter the season as the first-choice right-back with Emil Krafth or DeAndre Yedlin behind him, depending on if the American departs the club.
