This Man Utd midfielder could bounce back with Newcastle
After a dismal season with the Red Devils, Jesse Lingard could find new life with Newcastle United.
Despite scoring two goals in the last two matches for Manchester United, Jesse Lingard had a notably poor season for the club. Despite making 22 league appearances, he went until the last match of the Premier League to register his first goal and finished with zero assists.
With just a year left on his contract and Manchester United continuing to add talented players in his position, Lingard would benefit from a full move elsewhere and Newcastle United makes a lot of sense for a landing spot.
He’s 27 years old and has proven himself as an EPL-quality starter with over 100 career appearances in the Premier League. He played a lot at attacking mid this season, but he’s made his most appearances for Man Utd on the wing. While he seems focused on getting back on track at Old Trafford, one of the club’s greatest players expects him to leave.
United legend Paul Scholes feels that Lingard is on his way out, especially after his subbing off vs. LASK on Wednesday. With Lingard’s price tag set around £20 million, Steve Bruce could secure his starting right-winger, solidifying him across from Allan Saint-Maximin on the other side and Miguel Almiron staying as the number ten.
There will be critics because of a lack of production, especially this season, but you won’t find many players with more production at a top league for that reasonable of a price. Newcastle United would be adding a veteran player that is motivated after fading at his boyhood club and wants to earn a spot in England’s EURO 2020 (2021) squad.
