Newcastle United could be close to making their second signing of the summer.

Newcastle United will be looking to make a few additions to upgrade the squad heading into next season. As a result of the failed takeover, the front office will be looking for loanees and bargain signings.

According to a new report from the Daily Echo, Newcastle United are currently in talks to sign Ryan Fraser, who is available for free. The former Bournemouth winger opted against renewing his contract with the Cherries, where he spent seven years of his career, and is now exploring his options.

Earlier in the summer it was reported that Arsenal and Tottenham were interested in securing his services, but no action was taken. Two other clubs from London – West Ham and Crystal Palace – have also thrown their hats in the race.

Regardless, Newcastle United have stepped up their interest by holding talks with the Scottish international’s representatives.

The Magpies are desperately seeking to add more talent across the front line, especially on the wing opposite of Allan Saint-Maximin in order to keep Miguel Almiron in the number ten role up the middle.

Newcastle United have a reliable winger in Matt Ritchie, but his fellow countryman would provide more creativity and has an eye for goal. Fraser experienced a dip in form last season, but in fairness, Bournemouth’s collective struggles placed a ceiling on the success of some key players.

During the 2018-19 campaign, Fraser scored seven goals and provided 14 assists for the Cherries as a winger. That is the type of quality Newcastle United need out wide if they aim to break into the top ten.

The fact that Fraser has four seasons of Premier League experience under his belt, and is available for free, would make him one of the bargain signings of the summer. It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few days.
