Newcastle United could build around Todd Cantwell
With Norwich City heading to the Championship, Newcastle United should pursue their star players.
Whenever a club is relegated from the Premier League, the attention immediately turns to which players from those clubs could be offered an out from another EPL side. Even when Newcastle United was most recently relegated, they lost players like Gini Wijnaldum and Andros Townsend. With Bournemouth, Norwich City, and Watford heading to the second division, there are talented players that Newcastle should consider rescuing like Callum Wilson or Gerard Deulofeu. Another option that could help boost the Magpies next season would be signing Todd Cantwell from Norwich.
The 22-year-old midfielder isn’t just a player that would be a welcome addition to Steve Bruce’s side. Rather, he could be a foundational piece that Newcastle United builds around. This season, he scored six goals and added two assists, both which came vs. Newcastle early in the campaign. Also in 2019, he featured for the English U-21 side.
He’s not even entering his prime and has the versatility you’re looking for in a midfielder. He’s quick, a willing defender, and a skillful dribbler. Depending on what shape Steve Bruce, or whoever the manager is, utilizes next season, you can plug him in multiple places and he would combine perfectly with Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron. The more skillful, aggressive players you can add going forward, the easier it is to find space for a striker to score goals.
Cantwell won’t be cheap and Newcastle won’t be the only team interested in his services. But, if there are some funds to be spent, the Magpies could secure a player for their present and their future with the blonde-haired baller from Norwich.
