Newcastle United target agrees to terms with French club

A player on Newcastle United’s summer wishlist is set to take his talents to Ligue 1.
With the 2019-20 Premier League campaign now in the rearview mirror, Newcastle United must focus on improving the squad in the transfer window, which opens today. Fans were hoping to see the PIF, Amanda Staveley, and the Reuben brothers running the show by now, but Mike Ashley is still in charge.
The Premier League has been “reviewing” the takeover since the paperwork was submitted in mid-April, and this indecisiveness is hurting Newcastle United in a big way. The Magpies were linked with several top players across Europe due to the takeover, but transfer targets have become much more realistic as of late.
One player that Newcastle United have been interested in for several months is Alfredo Morelos of Rangers. The Colombian international scored 52 goals and provided 11 assists for the Scottish giants in 104 appearances across all competitions, which includes the Europa League.
The latest reports out of Glasgow claim that Morelos has agreed to personal terms with French outfit Lille. Rangers were believed to have an affordable asking price of £15m for their striker’s services, but it looks like Newcastle United will miss out on this signing.
There are still several strikers to choose from in the transfer market, but Morelos would have been a solid signing for Newcastle United with his clinical finishing and great movement off the ball. With Morelos essentially off to France, Newcastle United still have some quality players in their list of targets.
A few weeks ago the Magpies were linked with Wolfsburg star Wout Weghorst. The most recent player to be linked with a move to St. James’ Park is Callum Wilson, who will surely be looking to stay in the top flight after Bournemouth were relegated.
It remains to be seen what action Newcastle United will take over the next few weeks, but the front office can cross Alfredo Morelos’ name off the transfer list.
