The Recap

This match certainly did not start off as we all expected. Before ten minutes were even on the clock, Newcastle United stunned Jurgen Klopp’s side. Christian Atsu brought the ball forward and played it out wide to Jetro Willems. The left-back dribbled into the edge of the area, had a smooth touch to his right foot, and uncorked a laser to beat Allison at the far post.

Liverpool immediately upped their pressure going forward, sending multiple shots just wide of goal. Sadio Mane found the equalizer just ahead of the half-hour mark and then scored a second in the 40th minute. On the latter goal, Martin Dubravka came off his line and slid down to block the ball, but it deflected over him and gave Mane an easy tap-in.

After the break, Atsu almost set up a second goal for Newcastle, but Emil Krafth couldn’t convert while lightly marked in front of goal. In the 72nd minute, Mo Salah buried the insurance goal and Liverpool cruised to a solid victory at home.
