A new name from Scotland lands on Newcastle’s radar

Newcastle United could sign a promising midfielder for £3m when the transfer window opens next week.
Newcastle United only have one game remaining this season – a tough encounter against top dog Liverpool – but the game means nothing for either side. The Magpies will finish the season in the middle of the pack, but now work is being done behind the scenes to ensure that the squad improves next term.
Well, that is what we like to think. A wide range of reports have been published about the club’s transfer strategy, but the latest report involves a player from Scotland.
The Magpies have been linked with Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos and Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard several times over the past few months, but a new name has landed on the team’s radar.
According to a new report out of Tyneside, Newcastle United are hoping to secure the services of Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull. The 21-year-old is labeled as a rising star in Scotland, and his impressive form with Motherwell has also attracted the interest of Celtic.
Turnbull made his professional debut with Motherwell in 2017, but had to wait until 2018 to get a full campaign under his belt. The youngster made 30 appearances for the Scottish outfit last season, 27 of which were as a starter, and he managed to score 15 goals and provided four assists in the process.
That great run of form got Steve Nickson’s attention and he could join Newcastle United for a mere £3m if the Magpies wish to pursue a deal. The only reason why the Toon might be hesitant to bring the youngster on board is because he only played two games this season due to a major knee injury.
According to the same report, it is for this reason that Celtic have not taken any action either. Signing a player after such an injury is a big gamble, but he is a talented midfielder with plenty of potential, and his best years as a player are way ahead of him.
Motherwell’s asking price for his services is pocket change for Newcastle United. In my opinion, the Magpies should turn their interest into a formal offer. This is a rare opportunity where Newcastle United could snatch up a future star.
