Recap
After some frustrating performances in front of goal to open the season, things finally started to go right for Newcastle United against the Hammers. Ciaran Clark opened the scoring just after the quarter-hour mark. Jonjo Shelvey’s delivery on a free kick found Joelinton, who nodded it back towards Clark, who put it in the back of the net. The Magpies doubled their lead when Jetro Willems’ cross was headed in by Federico Fernandez.
Shelvey would score a goal of his own as he buried a free kick from distance early in the second half. Fabian Balbuena and Robert Snodgrass scored goals to pull things close, but Newcastle held on away from home.
The three goals scored actually could have been more as Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin were flying around that day, but neither of them could find the back of the net. This win was followed by another victory over Bournemouth.
