Newcastle United ran Bournemouth off the pitch in a 4-1 away win.
Newcastle United bounced back in a major way vs. Bournemouth in the Premier League after their loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup. The Magpies got a goal from Dwight Gayle, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron, and Valentino Lazaro. Dan Gosling scored a stoppage-time consolation goal for the Cherries.
Saint-Maximin, NUFC’s Star
One of Newcastle’s most consistent players this season, it was odd to see Allan Saint-Maximin struggle vs. Manchester City. While Steve Bruce eluding to maybe resting him, the Frenchman instead starting and turned in a great performance. He assisted on all three Newcastle goals today.
Interesting lineup
Steve Bruce put out an interesting lineup today vs. Bournemouth, and it clearly was the right call. Emil Krafth saw a rare start at right-back and Sean Longstaff took over for Miguel Almiron as a number ten. We also had Joelinton starting on the left wing with Dwight Gayle as the striker. Joelinton didn’t register any goals or assists, but he does bring some quality on the wing.
Bad luck for Longstaff
Sean Longstaff got another start today after a disappointing outing vs. Manchester City. He played in a more advanced role today and was involved in two of the goals, scoring one and winning the ball to start a sequence on the opener. But, he appeared to pull his hamstring and subbed off, heading straight to the locker room.
Quick Kicks
- Good on Gayle to find the net early. No, it doesn’t make up for the Man. City miss, but it was the perfect way of moving forward.
- Isaac Hayden has been solid and he deserved a break from the starting XI and I loved the way Nabil Bentaleb and Jonjo Shelvey combined in the midfield today.
- Speaking of Shelvey, the team just looks so much different when he’s not on the pitch. His vision, passing, and calmness on the ball are huge for the Magpies.
- While Almiron getting more time off would’ve been good for him, scoring that goal will be big for him.
- Valentino Lazaro not starting probably doesn’t bode too well for him making a permanent move to the club. More on that in an article later.
- Additional good news today as Andy Carroll shaved his terrible beard.
