Newcastle United dominated Sheffield United by a margin of three goals earlier today.

Newcastle United returned to Premier League action with a massive 3-0 victory over seventh-placed Sheffield United. Goals from Allan Saint-Maximin, Matt Ritchie and Joelinton got the job done for the Magpies.

Newcastle United sat back in the opening ten minutes of the game, but they flipped the switch and dominated the affair the rest of the way. Steve Bruce promised fans they would see attacking football he delivered .

The Magpies finished the game with eleven shot attempts, eight of which were on target, and enjoyed 46% of possession. For the most part, the team looked fit and this was displayed on how frequently and aggressively they were pressing the opposition to recover the ball, even before Sheffield United were left with ten men due to a red card in 50th minute.

Fans should be extremely excited with the fact that Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton were directly involved in two of the goals today. The dynamic Frenchman was in the right place at the right time when he fired his shot past Dean Henderson to give the home side the lead in the 55th minute.

Matt Ritchie, who was quiet on the wing, ignited a flame with his rocket from distance that left Henderson in place to make it 2-0 in the 69th minute. Some fans questioned Bruce’s decision to start Ritchie, but the Scottish international was quality with a brilliant goal and assist to Saint-Maximin.

In the 78th minute, Joelinton orchestrated a wonderful attack by finding Miguel Almiron open out wide, and the Paraguayan returned the favor by setting the Brazilian up for his second goal of the season.

There was no better way for the Toon to restart their season, and now momentum is on their side as they prepare for Wednesday’s battle against Aston Villa. So long as Bruce deploys the same setup and encourages attacking football, Newcastle United should be favorites to get the job done once more.
