How many points will Newcastle United claim from their final nine games of the season?

After a three-month break that felt like an eternity for football fans, Premier League action will return this week. Newcastle United will host Sheffield United at an empty St. James’ Park to begin the final stage of the season.

Steve Bruce’s men are currently 13th in the table with 35 points. The Magpies are eight points clear of the bottom three and four points off the top ten. The key question, however, is how many points will Newcastle United take from their last nine games? Carson and I share our predictions below.

Newcastle United vs. Sheffield United

  • Carson A. Merk: Draw
  • It will be odd times with no supporters in the stands at St. James’ Park. I think that and the rust will level this out and neither side will be able to assert themselves for the win.
  • Durim Halimi: Win
  • I am expecting both teams to display some rusty form, especially in the first half. Both teams are known for their aggression, but the Magpies’ dynamic wingers will create some special moments in the second half.

Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa

  • Carson A. Merk: Loss
  • This one could go either way, depending on which match Steve Bruce prioritizes between this one and the FA Cup match on the weekend. I expect him to choose the Manchester City match and a rotated NUFC squad will struggle against Villa.
  • Durim Halimi: Draw
  • Aston Villa are 19th in the table and they need all the points they can get. They will give Newcastle United a difficult time, but their offensive urgency should leave them exposed in the back on a few occasions.
