The EPL striker Newcastle United need to sign this summer

Newcastle United should strongly consider signing Norwich City star man Teemu Pukki this summer.

Regardless of who owns Newcastle United when the summer transfer window opens, one thing is for certain: the Magpies need more quality up top.

Having only scored 25 goals in 29 games, Newcastle United are the joint-lowest scoring team in the Premier League. Joelinton is the only striker to score for the Magpies this season, but he only has one goal to his name.

With nine games remaining this season, the current strikers still have some time to turn things around, but it is unlikely. With the club on the verge of a major takeover, Newcastle United have been linked to several notable, expensive strikers, but spending big isn’t always the answer.

Norwich City have one foot in the Championship, and when they are officially relegated Newcastle United need to jump at the opportunity to sign Teemu Pukki.

The striker was a free transfer when he joined the Canaries two summers ago, but he has played like a £30-40m striker. With 11 goals and three assists, Pukki has been directly involved in 56% of Norwich City’s goals this season.

Although the club has struggled to score goals this season, Pukki has displayed his individual brilliance on several occasions. Pukki’s form this season might be the lone reason why multiple clubs are hoping his team gets relegated.

It is always easier negotiating a deal for a player when their club goes down, especially if their contract has a relegation clause. Newcastle United have conducted such business every season, but Pukki would be the best relegation deal yet.

According to TransferMarkt, Pukki’s current market value is just under £9m. Even if Norwich place a price tag between £15-20m if they get relegated, Pukki would be worth every penny.
