Things might not change much under Mike Ashley, but several quality signings could walk through the doors if the takeover is approved.

The excitement we all shared in mid-April regarding this takeover has gradually turned into pessimism and frustration. Newcastle United are on the verge of beginning a bright new chapter in the club’s history, but the Premier League is taking it’s time reviewing the deal.

The final status of the takeover will have a major impact on the Magpies. A rejection could see the Toon gear up for another relegation battle, whereas an approval could see Newcastle United fight for a place in Europe.

That being said, the aim of this article is to predict how the squad will look if Mike Ashley is still in charge, and how the different the lineup could be with Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers running the show. So, without further delay, let’s take a look at next season’s lineup with Ashley as the owner.

Mike Ashley: 2020-21 Lineup

Last summer was unorthodox for Newcastle United due to the fact that Ashley decided to spend large sums of money to bring in five players, which includes Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin. If he still owns the club, the business tycoon will most likely spend some money once again to support Steve Bruce in his second season as head coach.

The only changes I expect at Newcastle United with Ashley in charge will be in midfield and on the front line. In defense, one can assume that Steve Bruce will convince the front office to extend Javier Manquillo’s contract and sign Jetro Willems permanently. I believe the duo will still be on the team even if the takeover is approved.

Newcastle United have been linked with some players that Ashley would deem affordable and worthy of the money. Those players being Xherdan Shaqiri (Liverpool), Jonathan David (KAA Gent) and John McGinn (Aston Villa). That being said, here is how I think Newcastle United will look if Mike Ashley is still in charge.

GK: Martin Dubravka

DEF: Jetro Willems, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Javier Manquillo

MID: Allan Saint-Maximin, John McGinn, Jonjo Shelvey, Xherdan Shaqiri

ATT: Jonathan David, Miguel Almiron
