Newcastle United will compete in their second friendly this weekend as they prepare for Premier League action.

Newcastle United managed to come from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over rivals Middlesbrough on Tuesday. The friendly was played behind closed doors, but Steve Bruce was pleased with his team’s overall performance.

The Magpies were trailing 2-0 in the first half, but goals from Yoshinori Muto, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton sealed the deal for the home side. Newcastle United have another friendly lined up for Saturday.

This weekend’s opponent also hails from the Championship: Hull City. Like Middlesbrough, Hull City find themselves in a dangerous position in the Championship table as they are only two points above the relegation zone.

Hull City have already competed in two friendlies prior to this clash. Earlier in the week the Tigers drew 2-2 with Huddersfield Town, but suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Sheffield United yesterday.

Newcastle United will host Sheffield United in their return to Premier League action on June 21st, and the fact that they are in good form does not bode well for Bruce’s men. The Magpies barely got past Middlesbrough, so they will have a lot to prove in this clash.

The last time these two teams met was during a friendly in preseason leading up to the 2018-19 campaign. That game ended 2-2 at the KCOM Stadium.

Newcastle United played behind close doors on Tuesday and the same policy is expected for this game. A full report and highlights from the game will be uploaded on the team’s website by NUFC TV.

Fans will be hoping Newcastle United get the job done, and more goals from Joelinton would be massive for his confidence ahead of Premier League action.
