With or without new owners, there are three players Newcastle United must sign this summer.

Based on all the latest reports and “leaked” information from the Premier League, the takeover of Newcastle United is up in the air. Like the rest of the Toon Army, I am hoping that Richard Masters and other top officials approve this deal, but optimism among fans is fading.

That being said, there is a good chance that Mike Ashley will still run the show at St. James’ Park next season. If that ends up being the case, Ashley must be prepared to make multiple signings.

The following players have been linked with moves to Newcastle United, but Ashley should seal these deals if he still owns the club this summer.

Jonathan David

The 20-year-old Canadian striker has been on fire in Belgium with 37 goals in 83 games across all competitions. At the international level, David has found the back of the net 11 times in 12 appearances.

David is a dynamic striker who is capable of leading the front line despite his young age. The latest rumor claims that Newcastle United are currently negotiating a deal with KAA agent for his services. Multiple teams are interested in David, but Newcastle United need the talented striker to put an end to their scoring woes.

Franck Kessie

Newcastle United have been linked with a £25m move for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, who would be a perfect partner for Jonjo Shelvey. The Magpies have multiple defensive midfielders, but Kessie is a box-to-box player who would boost the club’s offensive efficiency.

The 23-year-old is averaging five goals per season in the Serie A. The Magpies need more creativity in the middle of the park and Kessie fits that bill. Perceived as a rising star in the Ivory Coast, Newcastle United would be wise to secure his services as he enters his prime.

Xherdan Shaqiri

The Liverpool winger is set to leave Anfield this summer in search of playing a more important role elsewhere. The two-time Champions League winner would be a major asset out wide. His pace, technical skills and ability to score from distance makes him the ideal candidate to play opposite of Allan Saint-Maximin.

Miguel Almiron has been playing out of position for far too long. The arrival of Shaqiri would help the Magpies maintain top quality out wide while getting the best out of their second-most expensive signing in the number ten role.
