Rangers are willing to sell their top striker for £20m, and Newcastle United should give him an opportunity to perform in the Premier League.

Newcastle United are the most frustrated team in the Premier League at the moment for a few reasons. Firstly, Richard Masters and other top level Premier League officials are sabotaging the club with their slow, grueling review of the takeover.

Secondly, Newcastle United have the worst front line in the Premier League. The Magpies have only scored an alarming 25 goals in 29 games this season as a result of Joelinton, Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto only combining to score one goal.

The Magpies have been linked to strikers like Edinson Cavani and Dries Mertens, but the aging PSG and Napoli men are simply looking for one more decent paycheck before retirement.

A striker who could have an immediate and significant long-term impact on the front line at the age of 23 is only 243 kilometers away from St. James’ Park. That man is Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian international has been linked to Newcastle United for several months, but sources close to Morelos hint that he is likely to leave the Scottish giants this summer. Steven Gerrard is under immense pressure as he is tasked with stopping Celtic from raising their tenth consecutive league title.

The latest reports regarding Morelos’ potential departure claim that Rangers would accept a bid of £20m for his services as they need the money to bring in new talent to compete with Celtic. The Magpies need a dynamic striker who has quick feet and good strength, and they would get that in Morelos.

Let’s look at the numbers, with a grain of salt because the Scottish Premier League is, in my opinion, the third best league in the U.K. after the Championship. Morelos has been a scoring machine in Scotland with a total of 77 goals in 137 appearances across all domestic competitions.

A statistic that should be valued much more is Morelos’ record in the Europa League, a tournament in which Rangers have faced some quality sides across Europe. In this competition, Morelos has found the back of the net eight times in 13 games.

Those numbers are impressive to the point where he has attracted the attention of multiple Premier League clubs, including third-placed Leicester City. The reason why Morelos has so many goals to his name is because of his athleticism.

Unlike like the Magpies’ current strikers, Morelos is confident in front of goal and is a proven specialist when it comes to placing the ball away from the keeper’s reach. The Colombian is a handful for opposing defenders due to his ability to score with both feet, and he is also an underrated aerial threat in the penalty area.

The best way to describe Morelos’ game truly is like a combination of Salomon Rondon’s strength and precision in front goal, and Ayoze Perez’s ability to find open lanes to get in great scoring positions.

Alfredo Morelos is not a big name in European football, but he has made a name for himself in the U.K. with his stellar performances for Rangers. Signing Morelos might be seen as a gamble by some, but he deserves a chance to showcase his skills in the Premier League after spending three successful seasons in Scotland.

The important thing to realize is that Morelos is about to enter his prime, he is a scoring machine in a league where he should be scoring plenty of goals, and his record in the Europa League is quite impressive.
