Newcastle are in the race with Spurs and Napoli for a promising striker

The agent of Lille’s breakout star striker confirmed that Newcastle United have expressed interest.

Newcastle United have been linked with too many players to name since the takeover talks began. With the takeover still in limbo, it’s largely just speculation on who might be on the wishlist of new ownership. But, at least one link has been upgraded to more credible as Newcastle United’s interest in a promising striker has been confirmed by a quality source.

According to Ariyo Igbayilola, the agent of Lille star Victor Osimhen, Newcastle United have shown interest in the Nigerian striker. In comments to The Cable, Igbayilola stated that Napoli are leading the race due to a true committment to add Osimhen, but Newcastle and Spurs have both indicated they are interested in him. The agent also added that he finds it unlikely that his client stays in France with Lille next season.

In his first season with Lille, Osimhen has 18 goals in all competitions to go along with six assists. This breakout campaign follows a solid year in Belgium with RSC Charleroi. He scored 20 goals during the 2018-19 season after struggling to make an impact with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old has also scored four goals in less than ten appearances with the Nigerian national team.

He has good height (over 6 feet) and and would bring a lot of pace and composure in the box. Imagine an attacking trio of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, and Victor Oshimen charging at defenders.

The price won’t be cheap and the competition from Napoli, Spurs, and whoever else gets involved will be stiff, but Newcastle United shouldn’t back down. Victor Oshimen could be the striker of the club’s foreseeable future.
