After an announcement from the FA, it appears that Newcastle United’s FA Cup run will continue after postponement.

Yesterday, it was announced that the Premier League will be returning to action in late June. For Newcastle United, there is not a lot to gain in league play down the stretch. They sit 13th on the EPL table and they are comfortable distances away from relegation and a European position. But, today, some news came out that should excite the Toon Army in a big way.

The Football Association has followed up their Premier League news on Thursday with an announcement of provisional dates for the FA Cup to return. The weekend of June 27-28 will include the four quarter-final matchups with Newcastle United hosting Manchester City after the Magpies defeated West Bromwich Albion in the fifth round.

When it comes down to the actual match, there are factors for and against Newcastle United. The fact that it will be shortly after the return to action makes the form of both clubs a bit more unpredictable. But, while the expectation will be for the match to take place at St. James’ Park, there will be no supporters in the stands, which would have been a big advantage for the Magpies.

But, either way, this is cause for excitement across Tyneside. This is the furthest the club has advanced since 2005-06 and they haven’t made a final since 1998-99. Their last, and sixth, FA Cup title came back in 1954-55. Outside of the Championship crown, this is Newcastle’s best bet to touch silverware in years.

The other matchups will be Leicester City vs. Chelsea, Sheffield United vs. Arsenal, and Norwich City vs. Manchester United. There will be a break after those quarter-finals as the semi-finals would be played on July 18-19 with the FA Cup Final being played on the first day of August.
