A Newcastle United home kit is voted best in EPL history
Newcastle United were selected as the best home kit in Premier League history.
There are some classic, beautiful kits in the Premier League’s history. Obviously, we’re all biased that Newcastle United has the best of the bunch, but now there’s a list from NBC Sports that has the Magpies occupying the top spot, too.
Joe Prince-Wright, who hails from Southampton, put together a video ranking of the top ten home kits in Premier League history for NBC Sports. Newcastle United’s kit from 1995-97 was selected at the best kit in EPL history. Prince-Wright proclaimed that the kits “should be in a museum somewhere.” He specifically highlighted the Newcastle Brown Ale sponsorship on the front of the classic black and white striped-jerseys, along with the collar and button.
The NBC sports analyst lists players like Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, David Ginola, and others that immediately come to mind for soccer supporters when they see that perfect specimen of a kit.
Kevin Keegan’s teams during that time did Tyneside proud as the Magpies secured back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League.
The rest of the top ten was as follows:
10: Nottingham Forest’s 92-93 kit.
9: Aston Villa’s 99-00 kit.
8: Arsenal’s 97-98 kit.
7: Everton’s 09-10 kit.
6: West Bromwich Albion’s 08-09 kit.
5: Crystal Palace 97-98.
4: Manchester United’s 94-95 kit. This portion of the video featured a familiar face as club captain that year, current Newcastle manager, Steve Bruce.
3: Wimbledon’s 92-93 kit.
2: Leeds’ 95-96 kit.
With the club struggling with mediocrity, criticism of negative tactics, and the Mike Ashley stigma for years, it’s great to see the Magpies getting high praise on the entire landscape of English soccer.
