With his loan set to expire after the season, Valentino Lazaro should join Newcastle United on a full transfer.

There is some uncertainty regarding the future of Newcastle United loanee Valentino Lazaro. It was rumored a couple of months back that he would be joining the Magpies on a full move, but recently, his agent has seemed to indicate his future is not yet secured. For Newcastle United, it would make a lot of sense for them to sign the Austrian on a full transfer this summer.

Lazaro joined the club on loan in January because he was struggling for match time with Inter. He only made six appearances in Serie A before playing in five matches for Newcastle. In the Premier League, he played in four matches as a right-back and made his lone FA Cup appearance on the wing. He would register his lone goal for the club in their 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion.

If they want him as a right-back, Newcastle should pass on keeping Lazaro with the club. He was inconsistent in defense, including a red card vs. Crystal Palace.

But, he can be a starting-caliber player as a right-winger. He tallied five goals and 12 assists in his final season in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin. He has good pace and an eye for his teammates that could help with the club’s attack. As we often mention with rumors about wingers, a signing of Lazaro would allow Miguel Almiron to move to his best position on the pitch: the number 10.

The new owners should feel comfortable signing the 24-year-old for about 21 million. He would be a welcome addition and would be just entering his prime.
