The Bundesliga was back in action yesterday and Newcastle United supporters had to watch one of their castaways shine.

While it was great to see top European soccer return with the Bundesliga yesterday, Newcastle United supporters may have paid extra attention to VfL Wolfsburg’s right-back.

Kevin Mbabu made his 12th appearance of the season for the German side when they took on Augsburg. He made a great run from the midfield, down the right wing, and into the penalty area. He curled a perfect cross to Daniel Ginczek, who tapped the ball home for a stoppage-time winner for the club occupied sixth on the Bundesliga table.

For the Toon Army, it’s tough to watch Mbabu star in a top European league. He left Newcastle United for BSC Young Boys, first on loan before making the permanent move after the 2016-17 season.

His time with the Magpies was essentially uneventful. After signing in 2013, he would only make three Premier League appearances and primarily played with the reserve side. He had two assists for the U-23s.

He was young when he joined Newcastle United and he didn’t seem ready to take on an increased role. His departure was nothing more than a seldom-used player leaving, but it has become a point of frustration of “what might have been” for Newcastle United fans as he has gone on to win a Swedish title and now stars in the Bundesliga.

Everton will be ready to move for Matty Longstaff this summer. dark. Next

Possibly, with a potential increase in funds in the future, Mbabu could be a player that Newcastle United targets and tries to bring back to Tyneside.
