Top players are sought after by several clubs, which means Newcastle United need to find ways to steal deals from elite competition.

With new reports claiming that the takeover of Newcastle United could be announced early next week, fans are hopeful that the club’s new front office will get down to business right away. The Magpies have been linked with several players over the past month, but it remains to be seen who they will pursue from day one.

Recent reports claimed that the incoming owners’ primary transfer targets – Edinson Cavani, Dries Mertens and Luka Jovic – are not likely to sign for Newcastle United. This will require the modification of their transfer wishlist. That being said, here are three deals Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his partners should consider hijacking.

Jack Grealish

Potential Destination: Manchester United

Of all the players on this list, Jack Grealish would be the most expensive option (£70m), but he would have a significant impact on this squad. As a midfielder who enjoys playing higher up the pitch and coordinating attacks, Aston Villa’s skipper is the type of playmaker Newcastle United need in order to improve their offensive efficiency.

With seven goals and six assists to his name this season, Grealish has carried Aston Villa on his back with a mediocre supporting cast around him. Newcastle United aim to elevate their status in the Premier League by bringing in top talent, and the sky would be the limit for Grealish if he can orchestrate attacks with quality strikers in the final third. The fact that Grealish is only 24 is also a major plus as Newcastle United would bring in a player who is entering his prime and is on the verge of breaking into England’s national team.

Ryan Fraser

Potential Destination: Tottenham

Ryan Fraser is a talented winger who has been an integral player for Bournemouth in their four seasons in the Premier League. Playing for a small club like Bournemouth has kept Fraser under the radar, but the Scottish international has quietly scored 16 goals and completed 26 assists in 120 top flight appearances as a winger.

Having spent four seasons in the Premier League, Fraser would bring quality experience to the squad and could carry on playing the same way. In addition, Fraser’s arrival would bring the best out of Miguel Almiron as the former MLS star could move from the wing to his traditional number ten role. Fans are expecting more goals and assists from Almiron, and this transfer would help him achieve that objective.

Timo Werner

Potential Destination: Liverpool

Last, but certainly not least we have a player that I am mentioning for the third time in two weeks: Timo Werner. Germany’s rising star has been in fine form with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and his scoring record has attracted the interest of Liverpool. The 24-year-old has been averaging 17 goals and seven assists per season since joining RB Leipzig in 2016, and Newcastle United are in dire need of a consistent, clinical striker like Werner.

Werner has a release clause worth £52m that expires on June 15th, and a recent report claimed that Liverpool are not willing to pay that fee and would rather negotiate a lower price. Well, if the takeover of Newcastle United goes through next week, the incoming owners have a golden opportunity to make contact with RB Leipzig and Werner to steal this deal. With his scoring record, and the fact that his best years are still ahead of him, Werner is worth every penny of the £52m release clause fee.
