Kalidou Koulibaly is reportedly interested in joining Newcastle United and that’s massive for the club’s recruitment of star players.

As we all wait for the Newcastle United takeover to be completed by the Premier League, rumors continue to come out about the players and managers that the new owners would be interested in signing. One of the top stars linked with the team has now reportedly expressed interest in signing with the Magpies this summer.

Napoli’s world-class central defender Kalidou Koulibaly would be open to joining Newcastle United, according to Sky Sports.  The financial standing and ambition of the new ownership group would be intriguing to the Sengalese international star.

There is a debate to be had if the new owners should spend a huge chunk of the transfer budget on an already deep, talented position group. But, Koulibaly’s interest means so much more than just Newcastle potentially bringing in a top defender.

If Koulibaly, a player that’s been linked with clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, is interested in joining the club, that means top stars will likely share that feeling. Newcastle United having the finances to make big moves is one thing, but the big-name players they want being interested is just as important.

Skeptics have used the line of thinking that players of the highest level wouldn’t want to join a smaller club, despite their new money. But, Koulibaly being open to a move this summer certainly bodes well for the future of Newcastle United and their recruitment of star players.
