The takeover has not been formally approved by the Premier League yet, but as soon as the green light is given there are five clubs that should start to worry.

Three weeks and counting have gone by and Newcastle United supporters are still waiting for the Premier League to approve the takeover of the club. New reports claim that complaints from BeIN Sports have delayed the process, but Mike Ashley and the prospective owners are confident that the deal will go through.

This takeover, which is also known as Project Zebra, will be massive for Newcastle United. The club’s objective is to reach new heights in the Premier League, and the incoming owners have the funds to achieve that goal in the near future. That being said, at this initial stage there are five teams that should be worried about this takeover.

Everton

Everton have sufficient talent in their squad to regularly knock on the door of the top six. With a world-class manager in Carlo Ancelotti now on the sideline, the Toffees have become even more competitive, and they are capable of landing some top players.

The revival of Newcastle United would certainly put a major dent in their plans, though. Firstly, if the Magpies do secure the managerial services of Mauricio Pochettino they will be able to attract notable players and force Everton to pursue alternative options in the transfer window. Secondly, the stronger Newcastle United become, Everton are faced with a high probability of missing out on the top six.

Over the last three seasons, Everton have finished seventh and eighth, twice. Just when it looked like Everton are on the verge of breaking into the top six for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, Newcastle United’s ambitious takeover might halt them in their tracks.

Wolverhampton

Much like Everton’s case, Wolverhampton are right up there with the top dogs of the Premier League, but the difference is that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are currently playing in Europe. Despite only earning promotion in 2018, Wolverhampton have invested heavily and wisely to become a top six contender.

Wolverhampton have all the right tools in place to stick around the top six, but they should feel threatened by the takeover of Newcastle United. The last thing Wolverhampton needed is another team breathing down their neck for a place in Europe. With Carlo Ancelotti and Everton on one side, and possibly Mauricio Pochettino and Newcastle United on the other, Wolverhampton will have their work cut out from them.
