According to Craig Burley, Newcastle United should look to add Manchester City’s wonderkid.

On ESPN FC, the pundits were discussing the pending Newcastle United takeover. After they talked about the budget and potentially hiring a new manager like Mauricio Pochettino, Craig Burley mentioned that the club should look to sign young, promising players from big clubs like Phil Foden.

From a Newcastle perspective, Foden is the exact type of player they should be looking at. He’s hungry to fulfill the potential that everyone thinks he has and he’s not even close to his prime yet. You could get him for a large chunk of his career and make him a staple of the new-era Newcastle United. Or, you might only have him for a few quality seasons, then sell him for a massive transfer fee.

His versatility and the ability to make his teammates better would transform the Newcastle United attack. As a teenager, he’s been training with some of the best players in the world and that certainly will help prepare him to step into a starring role himself.

The 19-year-old has struggled for consistent match time on those loaded Manchester City sides for the past few years. He is widely regarded as one of soccer’s rising stars and the likely heir apparent to David Silva. He’s a lifelong City fan and came up through the Academy, so he definitely has solid roots with the club. But, could Newcastle United convince him to make a big-money move to Tyneside where he would play consistently for a team on the rise?

Manchester City will definitely be reluctant to part with their most promising prospect, but if the right offer comes on the table, Pep Guardiola & Co. might have a tough time turning it down.
