With rumors swirling that Arturo Vidal could join Newcastle United if Max Allegri becomes the club’s manager, we look at what the veteran midfielder would add to the Magpies.

There is a lot of talk surrounding Newcastle United right now, primarily focused on the takeover process. While we are all excited to see Mike Ashley’s reign coming to an end potentially, there are also discussions about how the new ownership group would shape the roster and management for the Magpies. In recent days, FC Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has reportedly said that he would join Newcastle if the club hires Max Allegri as their manager.

The 32-year-old Vidal played under Allegri at Juventus, where the Italian managed from July 2014 to the 2018-19 Serie A season. Since their time together, Vidal has played for FC Bayern Munich and his current club, FC Barcelona.

Newcastle United would benefit greatly from adding Vidal to their midfield. He is skilled on the ball in small spaces and a quality distributor. But, his main contributions would be his leadership, experience, and aggressiveness in the middle of the park.

He’s a true leader that has succeeded across the soccer world for club and country. With Juventus, Vidal won Serie A four times along with cup titles. He won the Bundesliga three times with Bayern and won La Liga last season. For the Chilean national team, he’s won the Copa America twice.

The aggressiveness he brings would allow for the Magpies to control the midfield. He’s unafraid to go into tough tackles and that is something that Newcastle have been missing in recent years, with Issac Hayden their most defensive-minded midfielder.

It will be interesting to see if the dominoes will fall that lead Allegri and Vidal to arrive in Tyneside to propel Newcastle United forward.
